[Hiring] Career Advisor @Probably Good

Role Description

A career decision can shape decades of someone’s life, and what they contribute to the world. At Probably Good, our mission is to empower people to build careers that are good for them and good for the world. We help people navigate important questions with thoughtful guidance, practical resources, and a serious commitment to understanding their individual circumstances.

We’re looking for talented people to help shape that next chapter. You’ll help advisees turn a desire to do good into a clearer direction and concrete action, while bringing your own expertise and ideas to how we expand our support.

About the roles

We expect to make two hires from this hiring round. We welcome candidates who are interested exclusively in career advising, but we'd also like to gauge fit for our other programs.

Career advising

Career advising will be a central responsibility of your role, and could be your sole focus. You’ll work directly with our advisees to help them navigate consequential decisions, combining thoughtful conversation, careful analysis, and practical support. This will include:

  • Preparing for and conducting one-to-one advising sessions with people from varied backgrounds and career stages.
  • Helping advisees identify patterns in their experience, clarify their motivations, and understand where their skills could be especially useful.
  • Exploring promising career paths and weighing tradeoffs between impact, personal fit, career development, and practical constraints.
  • Researching relevant cause areas, professional fields, organizations, and opportunities.
  • Helping people turn broad ambitions into concrete next steps: testing a direction, developing skills, seeking feedback, making connections, or applying for roles.
  • Providing follow-up resources, feedback, and relevant introductions.
  • Maintaining accurate advising records so that we can analyze and improve our own performance.
  • Sharing insights, learning from advisees’ experiences, and helping improve our advising approach.

Additional areas you could contribute to or lead

You would be expected to spend 50-100% of your time on advising, but your role could include up to 50% of your time on one of the following:

  • Events: Developing and delivering workshops, giving talks, hosting Q&As, and representing Probably Good externally.
  • Headhunting and talent matching: Identifying promising candidates, building relationships with hiring organizations, and helping fill crucial roles.

Who might be a good fit

Relevant skills could come from advising, mentoring, research, recruiting, management, coaching, community building, or work in one of our priority cause areas. We’re looking for people who bring:

  • Careful listening and interpersonal judgment.
  • An impact-focused approach.
  • Analytical ability and practical judgment.
  • Curiosity across causes and careers.
  • Clear, candid communication.
  • Ownership and dependability.
  • A collaborative approach.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Fluency in English.

Working at Probably Good

You’ll join a small, remote, collaborative team where your ideas and judgment can influence how we work. We value ownership, transparency, and constructive collaboration.
