Job Duties of the Ordinary Seaman<br><br>The Deckhand is authorized to prevent any individual from boarding the vessel when the presence of such individual raises suspicion. The Deckhand is authorized to inform any non-marine individual employed by the vessel of acts that are deemed unsafe or in conflict with Company policy.<br><br><strong>Duties And Responsibilities<br><br></strong>The duties and responsibility of the Deckhand will include but are not limited to:<br><br>Assist the Engineer/Oiler in transferring of potable water (when needed) or other fluids. In no case is the Engineer/Oiler relieved of responsibility for supervision of these activities or of the responsibility to prevent a pollution incident during these transfers.<br><br>Assist the Engineer/Oiler in routine maintenance to the vessel.<br><br>Stand bridge watch, making regular vessel rounds, including the machinery spaces, as directed by the Master or by the Mate or Engineer/Oiler as the delegated representative of the Master.<br><br>Assist in mooring the vessel, anchoring, or setting the gangway.<br><br>Performing all work safely with the proper safety equipment and proper protective equipment where appropriate.<br><br>Being prepared to act in case of emergency according to the duties delegated depending on the situation.<br><br>Reporting to his or her supervisor any hazardous conditions that may negatively impact the vessel, her crew, or the environment.<br><br>Performing all duties in a professional, seaman-like manner while practicing and promoting high safety and environmental<br><br>standards.<br><br>Additionally, all physical requirements must meet USCG Physical Requirements as determined in NVIC 04-08.
